In
response to the 1996 bacteria outbreaks of west coast unpasteurized apple cider, the Michigan Cider Makers’ Guild was
founded in 1999 as an effort to uphold
Michigan
’s stringent state program of cider safety as well as to promote
the history and quality aspects of
Michigan
cider production. Membership to the Guild requires not only a
solid plan for sanitation within cider production, but the annual
attendance of the recently founded “cider school” which helps
mill operators to continue to develop further policies in cider
“safety”. Plymouth Orchards is a proud (and founding) member
of the Michigan Cider Makers’ Guild and maintains a
continued commitment to quality and safe cider production.
